Find out more about me and my background

My name is Alisdair Macleod and I believe I'm the only person exclusively practising solution focused brief therapy with clients around Glasgow. Please get in touch if I'm wrong! I am a convert as I initially graduated as a CBT therapist but fell in love with solution focused practice when I had a go trying it out with clients. Many solution focused practitioners talk about coming home when they start practising it and I realised there was no turning back for me too when I noticed the difference it made. I think it strange it isn't more established in the biggest city in Scotland and my best hopes are to change that through this website.

I have practised solution focused with many client problems but most of my experience is with clients who present with alcohol and drugs issues. As you might imagine, working in alcohol and drugs clients brings with it a whole host of other personal and emotional issues, family breakdown and trauma. Although I have specialised in alcohol and drugs, I have found over the years any issue a client presents with responds well to solution focused.

I was always interested in mental health. I suppose it was in the blood as I was brought up by mental health charge nurses living beside the hospital they worked in. Although I worked in the psychiatric hospital I didn't aspired to a career like my parents until later and moved into computing initially instead. I did however continue to read and be fascinated by mental health and psychotherapy. After gaining my professional qualifications in social care and a diploma in CBT, I started another diploma in Solution Focused Practice.

When I started practising solution focused, I immediately noticed a difference in how clients responded. Solution focused resolved so many of the questions I had about what constitutes good practice. More than any other way of working, solution focused trusts a client's own agency and asks in detail how their experience and resources might be harnessed to find their own way out of their difficulties.

The human soul is so ruthlessly original; the only way to express the distinctive pitch of one's own heart is for each of us to build our own way of using our voice.

As a group, solution focused practitioners are always generous of their time and experience and I would like to continue that tradition in passing on what wisdom I possess of a type of therapy that has changed my whole outlook. I still see clients privately as I still love hearing their stories of success. My main focus now though is to pass on my learning of solution focused as I am passionate about it's effectiveness both for clients and the practitioners who use it.

If you're curious to know more about how a solution focused session works, have a browse or just give me a call on the mobile number or email and I'll tell you more. You don't need to have an issue with drug dependency to see me. Just leave your name and I'll get back to you.

If you are a professional and would like to know more, or even training in solution focused, please get in touch. I love talking about solution focused therapy almost as much as seeing clients.
